“School Colors”

A freshman clowning around on the Blackburn College (IL) campus in his high school sweater as fall shadows lengthen over scattering oak leaves. If I had known that a classmate snapped this picture and would pass it around at our reunion table, 59 years later, I would have ditched the bow pinned to my cap!

It was my high school classmates that I was think about when I wrote “School Colors” for our 50th reunion. I’d left my sweater on the Great Northern “Empire Builder” sometime in the late 1950s, traveling between Illinois and my home in Northwest Washington State. Verses 3 & 4 are posted on the “II. Moments (excerpts)” page of www.richardleeharris.net.
